Faux Stained Glass
What may appear to be the real deal when it comes to Stained glass can actually be something that is known as faux stained glass! This is a synthetically produced look alike of what we normally call stained glass.
Whereas stained glass in its original form requires a lot of effort and money, this is a cheap look alike that can be used in its place.
Worry not about the aesthetic appeal of faux stained glass because it is bound to generate a similar kind of appeal as the real thing. The only thing with this synthetic version is that you can still make your home look good even if you can’t afford the real thing.
There are however certain important things that you need to take under consideration when going to buy faux stained glass. The first thing that you have to decide is the kind of design that you are looking for. Then you will need to get your self some glass along with the necessary bonding materials and the patterns. Your tool kit should also be equipped with burnishing and cutting tools.
Start of by cleaning the glass with a decent solvent ensuring that it has a smooth and even surface. The best bonding material to work with is lead. This is because it lasts longer and is easier to handle. The real deal in the process is the applying of the lead adhesive to make out the patterns.
After this process has been completed you will be required to burnish the edges and make them smooth. The process varies slightly depending on whether you will be creating your own patterns or have purchased ready made patterns.
In the case of making your own patterns you will need to apply a film or some other synthetic material. Whereas if you are using a ready made pattern then all you have to do is apply it. In the case of using the film it must be first stuck to the glass and then the cutting procedure must follow.
Wait for a couple of hours for the adhesive to dry and you will have your faux stained glass ready to use.
